Overview
- The University of Cambridge has named its ten finalists to succeed Lord Sainsbury, including Sandi Toksvig and Gina Miller as the only women on the list.
- A victory for either Toksvig or Miller would mark the first time Cambridge has had a female chancellor since the role was established in the 13th century.
- Other nominees range from former BP chief Lord Browne and ex-culture secretary Lord Smith to economist Dr Mohamed El-Erian and astrophysics professor Wyn Evans.
- More than 34,500 alumni and senior staff can vote online from July 9 to 18, with in-person ballots scheduled for July 12 and 16 at Senate House.
- The ceremonial, unpaid chancellor will serve for up to ten years and will be announced in the week beginning July 21, taking on fundraising and ceremonial duties.
