Overview
- At least 33 people have died—20 in Thailand (14 civilians, six soldiers) and 13 in Cambodia (eight civilians, five soldiers)—as both sides report fresh casualties on Saturday.
- Exchanges of rockets, artillery and air strikes have erupted across at least 12 border zones, with Cambodian forces deploying BM-21 rocket launchers and Thailand using F-16 combat jets.
- Thai authorities have evacuated over 138,000 residents from four border provinces to more than 300 temporary shelters, while thousands have also fled communities in Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey.
- Diplomatic ties are at their lowest point: both capitals have expelled each other’s envoys, Phnom Penh recalled most staff from Bangkok and Thailand imposed martial law in eight border districts.
- The UN Security Council held a closed-door emergency session at Cambodia’s request, and China, the EU and ASEAN leaders have called on both governments to pursue dialogue and an immediate ceasefire.
