Darden Jr. Sentenced to Over 12 Years for Defrauding NBA Stars

The repeat fraud offender stole $8 million from Dwight Howard and Chandler Parsons, using the funds for luxury purchases instead of promised investments.

  • Calvin Darden Jr. was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison for defrauding former NBA players Dwight Howard and Chandler Parsons out of $8 million.
  • Darden falsely claimed Howard's $7 million would be used to purchase the WNBA's Atlanta Dream and Parsons' $1 million to loan to NBA prospect James Wiseman.
  • Instead of investing, Darden used the funds to buy a $3.7 million mansion, luxury cars, and artwork, including pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat.
  • This marks Darden's third fraud conviction, following similar schemes in 2005 and 2015, where he also impersonated his father, a prominent businessman.
  • In addition to the prison sentence, Darden was ordered to forfeit $8 million, luxury assets, and serve five years of supervised release.
