Overview
- Activision's Ricochet anti-cheat software has introduced a new feature called 'Splat' in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare III. This feature disables cheaters' parachutes or adjusts their velocity to instantly eliminate them from the game.
- The Splat feature is designed to humiliate cheaters by crashing them into the ground. It can be activated randomly and for fun, but only on accounts that are verified cheaters.
- The Ricochet anti-cheat software uses machine learning to sift through player report data and identify cheaters faster. It also informs players when it has been activated in a game.
- In addition to Splat, Ricochet has other tactics to disrupt cheaters, such as taking away their weapons or making other players invisible to them. These measures are used to gather data on how the cheaters are exploiting the game.
- Activision has also been working on improving server and client-side anti-cheat systems and using machine learning for more accurate detection of cheaters. In 2023, it identified over 110,000 player accounts on the dark web that were parsed from reused email and password combinations.
- Despite these measures, Activision acknowledges that combating cheating is an ongoing challenge. It has banned 80,000 accounts across Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare II, and these accounts will not be able to access Modern Warfare III.
