Overview
- Activision, Treyarch and port studio Iron Galaxy quietly released native PS4 and PS5 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops II on Thursday, July 9, 2026, using the PlayStation Store rather than a big rollout.
- Each base game is listed at $39.99 and is half price for PlayStation Plus members through August 6, 2026, while full DLC map packs are sold separately as $29.99 season passes that are also discounted for PS Plus subscribers.
- These releases are faithful ports, not remasters, and include Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies but do not add modern upgrades such as 120Hz support, field-of-view sliders, major visual overhauls, or other PS5-specific enhancements.
- Multiplayer is platform-locked with no crossplay or cross-progression, and matchmaking is further divided between players who buy the paid DLC and those who do not, increasing the risk of fragmented or smaller lobbies.
- Early comparisons show the PlayStation builds running on modern PSN infrastructure and currently reporting fewer Xbox-era hacking problems, while player reports on input responsiveness are mixed and Activision/Treyarch/Iron Galaxy have not published detailed patch or server notes.
