California Votes on Prop 50 to Temporarily Replace Independent Congressional Maps

Overview

  • Vote centers are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and mail ballots must be postmarked Nov. 4 and received by Nov. 12 to be counted.
  • Prop 50 would transfer congressional map-drawing to the Legislature for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections, replacing the citizens’ commission during that period.
  • An Emerson College poll released shortly before Election Day found 57% support, 37% opposition and 6% undecided among likely voters.

  • More than 6.4 million vote-by-mail ballots had been returned by Sunday, and counties plan to release initial tallies after polls close before certifying results in December.
