- Proposition 50 would pause the citizens’ commission for 2026–2030 and let the Legislature draw new congressional maps, a move backed by Gov. Gavin Newsom and national Democrats to counter GOP remaps in other states.
 - More than 5.7 million vote-by-mail ballots have already been returned and accepted, according to the California secretary of state.
 - Polls and vote centers are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and all registered voters were mailed a ballot that can be dropped at any official drop box or polling place statewide, with same-day registration available at voting sites.
 - Mail ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 4 and received by Nov. 12 to count, and officials warn that postal processing could delay postmarks, so late voters are urged to use drop boxes or vote centers or request a hand postmark at a post office counter.
 - Semi-official results begin shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, counties continue processing eligible mail ballots through Nov. 12, voters can cure signature issues until Nov. 30 at 5 p.m., counties may certify around Dec. 2, and the secretary of state can certify by Dec. 12.
