California Ticket Wins $1.22 Billion Mega Millions Jackpot

A single ticket sold in Cottonwood, California, claims the fifth-largest Mega Millions jackpot in history, ending a three-month streak without a winner.

The winning ticket, purchased at Sunshine Food and Gas in Cottonwood, matched all six numbers: 3, 7, 37, 49, 55, and the gold Mega Ball 6.
The jackpot winner can choose between a $1.22 billion annuity paid over 30 years or a lump sum cash payout of $549.7 million before taxes.
This jackpot is the fifth-largest in Mega Millions history and the seventh time the prize has surpassed $1 billion.
Two additional California tickets matched five numbers, earning $787,543 each, while similar tickets in Arizona, Missouri, and Texas won $1 million each.
The next Mega Millions drawing, scheduled for December 31, will reset to a starting jackpot of $20 million.
