California Mushroom Farms to Pay $450,000 in Back Wages and Damages

Two farms, California Terra Garden and Concord Farms, were found to have underpaid workers and provided unsafe housing.
The investigation began after a disgruntled employee killed seven coworkers in January 2023.
Workers were housed in cramped, insect-infested spaces, with illegal deductions from their pay for substandard housing.
California Terra Garden will pay $126,568 in back wages and penalties, while Concord Farms will pay $403,398.
The settlements address violations of the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
