California Mother Fatally Shot by Toddler with Boyfriend's Unsecured Gun

The child accessed a loaded 9mm handgun left unsecured in the bedroom by Mina's boyfriend, Andrew Sanchez, and unintentionally fired the weapon while Mina was lying in bed.
Sanchez, 18, was arrested and charged with felony child endangerment and felony negligent storage of a firearm; he has since been released on bail.
Mina had reportedly asked Sanchez multiple times to remove the firearm from their home, but her requests were ignored, according to her family.
Law enforcement has emphasized that the tragedy was entirely preventable and serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of safely storing firearms out of children's reach.
