Rodion Kolomoeits, a 39-year-old Ukrainian national, abducted his two children from their Los Angeles school on Tuesday morning after losing custody of them.
The children, 9-year-old Avaora and 7-year-old Hrant, were taken in a gray Toyota Prius, which was later spotted crossing the U.S.-Mexico border at San Ysidro.
Kolomoeits is believed to be fleeing to Ukraine with his children, both of whom are native Russian speakers with distinct physical descriptions provided by law enforcement.
