Overview

  • Flood advisories remained in effect Sunday for Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties as lingering thunderstorms kept the risk of flash flooding and rockslides elevated.
  • Authorities continued searching for a missing 5-year-old swept into the ocean at Monterey County’s Garrapata State Beach, where her father, 39-year-old Yuji Hu, died trying to rescue her.
  • A 71-year-old man died after his vehicle was swept off a flooded bridge in Sutter County, and at least four people died when a wooden boat believed to be carrying migrants capsized off San Diego.
  • The storm drenched coastal and mountain areas with several inches of rain, dropped more than a foot of Sierra Nevada snow, and triggered flooded roads, stranded vehicles and downed trees.
  • Los Angeles County lifted earlier evacuation orders but urged vigilance, and the National Weather Service said showers could continue through Tuesday with another system expected later this week.
