Calgary Police Under Investigation After Man Dies Following Taser and Physical Restraint

Alberta's police watchdog examines officers' use of force on man loitering at hotel, who later died on scene.

Calgary police confronted a man loitering at the Carriage House Hotel and Conference Centre on September 17.
The man, appearing dazed, was Tasered and punched by officers before being restrained with handcuffs and leg restraints.
The man expressed fear for his life during the encounter, stating, 'I don't want to die,' but was not informed he was being detained or arrested.
Emergency crews sedated the man, who was later found unresponsive and declared deceased at the scene.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the incident, and the three involved officers have been placed on a standard 30-day leave.
