Calgary Police Charge Woman After Rosedale Standoff as Suspect Dies by Self-Inflicted Gunshot

CPS retains the investigation after ASIRT deemed the case out of scope.

Overview

  • Monica Gonzalez, 32, is charged with one count of break and enter and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 8.
  • Police say a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant fired at a house to force entry, then shot at officers from inside a nearby residence.
  • Tactical officers contained the scene as residents were told to shelter in place for several hours, and no police injuries were reported.
  • About 80 minutes into the incident the woman surrendered, and roughly two hours in police confirmed the man had died by a self-inflicted gunshot inside the home.
  • Investigators say the pair had no ties to the homes involved, and Calgary police continue to lead the case after ASIRT found it out of scope.
