Calgary Man Charged After Boxing Day Crash Kills 9-Year-Old Girl

The fatal multi-vehicle collision followed a robbery and police pursuit, with speed and impairment under investigation as contributing factors.

  • A 30-year-old man, Duane Arlen John Nepoose, is facing 11 charges, including dangerous driving causing death, after a high-speed crash in Calgary killed a nine-year-old girl on Boxing Day.
  • The incident began with a robbery at a pharmacy in Calgary’s Millrise neighborhood, during which the suspect allegedly assaulted a pharmacist and fled in a stolen vehicle.
  • Police initially pursued the suspect but discontinued the chase due to the dangerous nature of his driving, opting instead to monitor him via helicopter.
  • The suspect ran a red light at the intersection of Macleod Trail and Southland Drive, causing a chain-reaction collision involving five vehicles and leaving multiple people injured, including another child in critical condition.
  • The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) determined that police actions did not directly contribute to the crash and will not proceed with further investigation into their involvement.
