Calgary Man Charged After Boxing Day Crash Kills 9-Year-Old Girl

A 30-year-old man, Duane Arlen John Nepoose, is facing 11 charges, including dangerous driving causing death, after a high-speed crash in Calgary killed a nine-year-old girl on Boxing Day.
The incident began with a robbery at a pharmacy in Calgary’s Millrise neighborhood, during which the suspect allegedly assaulted a pharmacist and fled in a stolen vehicle.
Police initially pursued the suspect but discontinued the chase due to the dangerous nature of his driving, opting instead to monitor him via helicopter.
The suspect ran a red light at the intersection of Macleod Trail and Southland Drive, causing a chain-reaction collision involving five vehicles and leaving multiple people injured, including another child in critical condition.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) determined that police actions did not directly contribute to the crash and will not proceed with further investigation into their involvement.
