Overview

  • Justice Tirthankar Ghosh declined a request for a CBI investigation into the July double death in Khejuri.
  • The court directed West Bengal’s CID to form a Special Investigation Team led by the DIG and including a Homicide Branch officer.
  • Justice Ghosh said he could not trust the CBI at this stage, describing its investigations as a “gallery show.”
  • Two men, identified as Sudhir Paik and Sujit Das, were found dead after a Muharram programme, with an initial autopsy citing electrocution and the families disputing that finding.
  • A division bench earlier ordered a second autopsy, and the single bench has now required the CID to file a progress report within a month as political claims over motive continue.
