Overview
- Administrators moved on Aug. 25 to delay the Sept. 18–19 job and STEM fairs after social media posts alleged immigration authorities would recruit on campus.
- Officials confirmed U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the FBI had registered, while ICE and the Department of Homeland Security were not among the 200-plus employers.
- The large fairs will be replaced with smaller boutique events tailored by discipline, and some sessions will still include law enforcement and Border Patrol recruiters.
- University leaders said a viral claim that federal agencies would “occupy” recruiter booths overstated the situation.
- The fairs are managed through the Handshake platform with more than 100,000 verified employers; CBP has attended past fairs, and ICE has not participated since 2017.
