• The blaze began at around 3 p.m. Sunday on Ponderosa Way north of Sunset Road in the Oregon House area of Yuba County.
• Cal Fire investigators traced the origin to friction from an impact wrench on a vehicle, which ignited dry grass and prompted a 911 call.
• Steep, brush-choked slopes have limited ground access, leading teams to deploy helicopters for overnight monitoring and aerial drops of water and retardant.
• Ground crews have constructed fire lines and reinforced perimeter controls to curb the fire’s forward progress.
• The wildfire has consumed at least 87 acres of dense brush since it ignited.
