Caixa Workers Begin Indefinite Nationwide Strike

Overview

• Employees of Caixa Econômica Federal voted to strike after rejecting the bank’s proposed Acordo Coletivo for 2026, with unions citing Saúde Caixa changes, wage adjustments, workload and abusive targets as core grievances.
• The walkout went into effect on Thursday, September 10, and has led to agency closures in multiple states including Tocantins, Sergipe, Amapá, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Alagoas.
• Caixa says digital services remain available through the CAIXA app, internet banking, Agência Digital, WhatsApp, ATMs and a network of lotéricas and correspondents while negotiations continue.
• Fenaban signed a new national CCT on September 9 that many banks and unions accepted, but Caixa employees rejected the bank‑specific ACT, so separate talks between Caixa and its unions are ongoing and new meetings and assemblies are scheduled.
• The Banco do Brasil response has been uneven with some local bases suspending action after CONTEC guidance and others holding new assemblies to decide whether to join or remain apart from the Caixa strike.
