Overview
- The fire began in heathland near Ryvoan Bothy close to Nethy Bridge on Wednesday and spread across about six kilometres, burning roughly 300 hectares.
- Scotland’s Justice Secretary Neil Gray said the blaze has been contained, but the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service calls it a protracted incident with operations continuing on Friday.
- Campsites, ski resorts, homes and businesses in Glenmore Forest Park were evacuated as a safety precaution and a strict cordon remains in place with no reported casualties.
- The RSPB deployed 27 staff and volunteers using all‑terrain vehicles with water bowsers and backpack hoses, and SFRS kept multiple fire engines and specialist crews committed to the scene.
- A very-high wildfire warning covers parts of Scotland through Monday and officials warn peat and heath can smoulder for days, so sustained monitoring and resources will be needed while other moor fires are also tackled.
