Cain Velasquez Sentenced to Five Years for 2022 Shooting

The former UFC champion will serve approximately one more year in prison after receiving credit for time already served.

Cain Velasquez was sentenced to five years in prison for attempted murder and related charges stemming from a 2022 shooting incident targeting Harry Goularte, who is accused of molesting Velasquez's son.
Velasquez pleaded no contest in August 2024, avoiding a mandatory life sentence, and received credit for 1,283 days already served, leaving him with about one year remaining in custody.
The 2022 incident involved an 11-mile high-speed chase during which Velasquez fired multiple shots at a vehicle carrying Goularte and others, injuring Goularte’s stepfather.
The case has drawn significant public attention, with widespread support for Velasquez from the MMA community and ongoing debates about vigilante justice and the legal system’s handling of child safety and abuse allegations.
Harry Goularte, who faces felony child molestation charges, is out on supervised release with GPS monitoring and is scheduled to stand trial in June 2025.
