Overview
- On Thursday the PL discovered the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral database listed Flávio Bolsonaro as filiado to the Missão party and the error prevented the PL from filing his presidential candidacy.
- The PL says the change was fraudulent and will ask the Federal Police to open an inquiry to restore his PL membership and allow the registration to proceed.
- Missão says it was the target of a fraudulent filiation, reports that it tried to cancel the entry the same day, and pledged to hand over system logs, emails and IP addresses to authorities.
- The TSE has said there was no invasion of its system and that the filiation was recorded by a Missão representative, leaving official responsibility and motive under dispute as the August 15 registration deadline looms.
- Separately, São Paulo authorities have opened an internal inquiry after video and reports showed a PM-SP vehicle near Fernando Haddad’s car and the STF-authorized Federal Police searches of a journalist and his alleged source have intensified debate over protection of journalistic sources.
