Overview
- Uttar Pradesh topped the surplus list at Rs 37,263 crore, followed by Gujarat at about Rs 19,865 crore and Odisha at about Rs 19,456 crore, according to the State Finances 2022-23 report.
- The 12 revenue-deficit states included Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
- Revenue-deficit grants totaled Rs 86,201 crore in FY23, with the largest shares going to West Bengal (15.76%), Kerala (15.28%) and Andhra Pradesh (12.24%), and 10 states receiving about 94% of the total.
