Caerphilly Opens Final 30mph Review as Flintshire Moves 38 Roads to Next Stage

Residents can submit comments through statutory consultations created under Welsh Government guidance that permits exceptions to the 20mph default.

Overview

  • Caerphilly County Borough Council has accepted proposals to return 20 specific roads to 30mph and is holding a final consultation that closes on November 27.
  • Flintshire County Council has identified 38 additional roads that meet exception criteria and will formally advertise the proposed 30mph changes in the coming weeks for public comment.
  • Flintshire’s latest list follows earlier reversions this year on six A and B roads after consultation confirmed they met the Government’s criteria.
  • Public engagement has been extensive, with more than 1,000 review requests submitted in Flintshire and 270 comments on 120 roads received by Caerphilly.
  • Wales introduced a default 20mph limit on most restricted roads in 2023, after which updated guidance and a listening programme enabled councils to reassess roads for possible 30mph exceptions.
