Overview
- The Dec. 7 event was held at the Detroit Union Carpenters and Millwrights Skilled Training Center on Detroit’s west side.
- Organizers said every child in attendance received a brand-new bicycle.
- Preselected families also received gas and grocery gift cards and a catered meal, with games and arts activities for children.
- Parents used a private shopping and gift-wrapping area for free Christmas gifts, and attractions included a DJ, a game truck, face painters, balloon artists and a photo booth.
- The giveaway was staged with nonprofit partner Give Merit and help from Kroger, and organizers said the Cunningham family funded the effort.
