Overview

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the enhanced outlay of ₹6,520 crore for PMKSY in the 15th Finance Commission cycle through FY26.
  • ₹1,000 crore of the new allocation will back 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 NABL-accredited testing laboratories to bolster safety infrastructure.
  • The irradiation facilities are expected to create preservation capacity of 20–30 lakh metric tonnes per annum to curb post-harvest losses.
  • Expressions of interest will be issued nationwide to invite and vet project proposals under existing PMKSY eligibility and guideline frameworks.
  • This boost aligns with broader efforts that have doubled India’s processed-food exports to USD 11 billion and modernized its agri-food processing value chain.
