Cabinet Clears Six-Year Pulses Mission To Cut Imports and Raise Farm Incomes

The programme centers on better seeds, assured buying and new processing capacity to lift yields and reduce reliance on overseas supplies.

Overview

  • The Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses will run from 2025–26 to 2030–31, with media reporting the outlay at Rs 11,000–11,440 crore.
  • For the next four years, NAFED and NCCF will provide up to 100% procurement of Tur, Urad and Masoor for registered farmers under PM-AASHA’s Price Support Scheme.
  • Seed and research interventions include ICAR oversight, SATHI-portal tracking, multi-location trials and distribution of 126 lakh quintals of certified seed plus 88 lakh free seed kits.
  • Area under pulses is slated to expand by 35 lakh hectares by targeting rice-fallow and other diversifiable lands, supported by intercropping and crop diversification.
  • By 2030–31, targets include 310 lakh hectares under pulses, 350 lakh tonnes of output and yields of about 1,130 kg/ha, aided by 1,000 subsidized processing units and monitoring of global prices.
