Cabinet Clears Rs 8,307.74-Crore, Six-Lane Bhubaneswar Ring Road Under HAM

By diverting heavy trucks from urban corridors, the greenfield bypass aims to ease congestion, lowering logistics costs.

Overview

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a 110.875 km access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road, also called the Bhubaneswar Bypass.
  • The corridor will be built under the Hybrid Annuity Model, combining government annuity payments with private investment and maintenance.
  • The alignment links NH-55, NH-57, NH-655 and SH-65, with planned connections to a major railway station, an airport, a proposed MMLP and two ports.
  • The route will start at Tangi and end at Rameshwar on NH-16, diverting heavy commercial traffic away from Khordha, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
  • Officials estimate about 74.43 lakh person-days of direct employment and 93.04 lakh person-days of indirect employment, as Odisha’s leadership publicly welcomed the approval.
