Cabinet Clears Delhi Metro Phase V(A) to Add 16 Km, 13 Stations

The targeted expansion closes key gaps to relieve congestion across central Delhi, improving airport access.

Overview

  • The Union Cabinet approved Phase V(A) at Rs 12,015 crore, authorising 16 km across three extensions with 13 stations (10 underground, three elevated).
  • The 9.91 km RK Ashram Marg–Indraprastha link will run through Central Vista with nine underground stops including Central Secretariat, India Gate and Bharat Mandapam.
  • A 2.263 km Aerocity–IGI Terminal 1 connector will give T1 direct access to the Airport Express Line, strengthening last-mile links for flyers and staff.
  • A 3.9 km Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj spur with stations at Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar and Kalindi Kunj will shorten NoidaFaridabad trips and ease the border choke point.
  • The government targets a three-year build and officials see operations in three to five years, with an estimated 33,000 tonnes of annual emissions avoided; Phase IV priority corridors are 80.43% built toward phased commissioning by December 2026.
