Overview
- The CCEA chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved 57 civil-sector KVs across 17 states and UTs, with seven sponsored by the Home Ministry and 50 by state and UT authorities.
- Locations are prioritized as 20 in districts with no KV, 14 in Aspirational districts, four in Left-Wing Extremism-affected areas, and five in North-East or hilly regions.
- For the first time, all newly sanctioned schools will include Balvatikas, embedding the National Education Policy 2020 foundational stage.
- The plan carries an estimated Rs 5,862.55 crore outlay—Rs 2,585.52 crore for infrastructure and Rs 3,277.03 crore for operations—implemented over nine years starting in 2026–27.
- The expansion is expected to add capacity for about 86,640 students and create roughly 4,617 permanent teaching and non-teaching posts.
