Overview
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved 57 schools under the civil sector with funding of ₹5,862.55 crore spread over nine years starting in 2026–27.
- The package includes ₹2,585.52 crore for construction and ₹3,277.03 crore for operations, with posts to be created as per Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan norms.
- Sites span 17 States and Union Territories, including 20 districts without a KV, 14 in aspirational districts, 4 in LWE-affected areas, and 5 in North-East or hilly regions.
- The new schools will add capacity for about 86,640 students and create roughly 4,617 permanent teaching and non-teaching jobs, alongside additional construction employment.
- Seven schools will be sponsored by the Ministry of Home Affairs and 50 by States and UTs, following an earlier approval for 85 KVs in December 2024, with 1,288 KVs currently serving about 13.62 lakh students.
