Cabinet Clears 57 New Kendriya Vidyalayas Across 17 States With Rs 5,862 Crore Outlay

The plan targets underserved districts, introducing pre-primary Balvatikas under NEP 2020.

Overview

  • The CCEA approved schools will be located across 17 states and UTs, including 20 in districts with no KV, 14 in aspirational districts, 4 in LWE-affected areas, and 5 in the North-East or hilly regions.
  • Seven schools will be sponsored by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the remaining 50 sponsored by state and UT authorities.
  • The project carries an estimated cost of Rs 5,862.55 crore over nine years starting in 2026–27, including roughly Rs 2,585.52 crore for capital works and Rs 3,277.03 crore for operations.
  • Once operational, the new KVs are expected to serve about 86,640 students and create around 4,617 permanent teaching and non-teaching posts.
  • The approval builds on 85 KVs sanctioned in December 2024; officials note 1,288 KVs currently serve about 13.62 lakh students, and reports indicate 19 of the new proposals are in Bihar.
