Overview
- The CCEA chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved four third and fourth line projects across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh.
- The sanctioned sections are Wardha–Bhusawal, Gondia–Dongargarh, Vadodara–Ratlam and Itarsi–Bhopal–Bina.
- The government projects an additional 78 million tonnes per annum of freight capacity with improved mobility and service reliability.
- Connectivity gains are cited for about 3,633 villages representing roughly 8.584 million people, including the aspirational districts of Vidisha and Rajnandgaon.
- Completion is targeted for 2030–31 with estimated savings of 28 crore litres of oil and 139 crore kilograms of CO2.
