Cabinet Approves Rs 8,307-Crore, 111-km Bhubaneswar Bypass Under HAM

The access-controlled corridor is designed to reroute heavy trucks away from urban centers to cut congestion.

Overview

  • Chaired by the Prime Minister, the CCEA cleared a six-lane access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass) in Odisha.
  • The corridor spans 110.875 km from Tangi to Rameshwar on NH-16 with a total capital cost of Rs 8,307.74 crore.
  • Implementation will follow the Hybrid Annuity Model, described by officials as a public–private partnership variant.
  • The alignment connects NH-55, NH-57, NH-655 and SH-65 and links to a major railway station, an airport, a proposed MMLP and two major ports.
  • Officials project diversion of heavy commercial traffic from Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khordha with improved freight efficiency and about 74.43 lakh direct and 93.04 lakh indirect person-days of work, as the Odisha chief minister welcomed the approval.
