Cabinet Approves 57 New Kendriya Vidyalayas, First To Include Balvatikas

Funding runs over nine years from 2026–27 to build full campuses from pre‑primary to Class XII.

Overview

  • Sites span 17 states and Union Territories with priority for districts lacking a KV, aspirational areas, Left‑Wing Extremism zones, and the North‑East/hilly belt, following 85 KVs cleared in December 2024.
  • The project is budgeted at about Rs 5,862.55 crore over nine years starting 2026–27, with roughly Rs 2,585.52 crore for capital works and Rs 3,277.03 crore for operations.
  • The 57 schools are expected to add capacity for approximately 86,640 students and create about 4,617 permanent teaching and non‑teaching posts.
  • Sponsorship is split with seven schools backed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and 50 by state or Union Territory authorities.
  • State allocations include 19 new campuses for Bihar and four each for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with the remainder distributed across other states and Jammu and Kashmir.
