Overview
- The Union Cabinet approved four new components under the Central Sector Scheme of Special Development Packages with a central outlay of ₹4,250 crore.
- The package designates ₹500 crore each for infrastructure in Adivasi and Dimasa areas of Assam, ₹3,000 crore for statewide development under the ULFA agreement and ₹250 crore for Tripura tribal communities.
- The ₹7,250 crore overall plan pairs ₹4,250 crore of central funding with ₹3,000 crore from the Assam government and runs from FY2025-26 to FY2029-30 in Assam and FY2025-26 to FY2028-29 in Tripura.
- Projects will target roads, civic facilities and regional connectivity alongside health services, education, skilling, livelihood initiatives and tourism promotion for marginalized communities.
- State governments will co-fund the scheme and begin rolling out projects in the coming fiscal year under memoranda of settlement with local insurgent groups.
