Cabinet Approves ₹4,250 Crore Peace Accord-Linked Development Package for Assam and Tripura

Starting in fiscal 2025–26 central grants matched by Assam government contributions will finance roads, health, livelihood upgrades under peace accord settlements spanning Assam through Tripura

Overview

  • The Union Cabinet approved four new components under the Central Sector Scheme of Special Development Packages with a central outlay of ₹4,250 crore.
  • The package designates ₹500 crore each for infrastructure in Adivasi and Dimasa areas of Assam, ₹3,000 crore for statewide development under the ULFA agreement and ₹250 crore for Tripura tribal communities.
  • The ₹7,250 crore overall plan pairs ₹4,250 crore of central funding with ₹3,000 crore from the Assam government and runs from FY2025-26 to FY2029-30 in Assam and FY2025-26 to FY2028-29 in Tripura.
  • Projects will target roads, civic facilities and regional connectivity alongside health services, education, skilling, livelihood initiatives and tourism promotion for marginalized communities.
  • State governments will co-fund the scheme and begin rolling out projects in the coming fiscal year under memoranda of settlement with local insurgent groups.
