CAA Data Shows Tui Airways Among UK's Worst for Flight Punctuality

The regulator's 2025 analysis records a 20-minute average delay for Tui, notes a 46-minute Birmingham–Zante hotspot, and has renewed focus on passenger compensation rights.

Overview

  • Sunday's Press Association summary of Civil Aviation Authority data found Tui Airways' UK departures averaged 20 minutes and 24 seconds late in 2025.
  • The analysis singled out Tui's Birmingham to Zante route as the airline's worst with at least 100 flights, recording an average delay of 46 minutes.
  • Tui was ranked the fifth worst performer in the CAA sample of 34 carriers that operated more than 2,500 UK departures, while the overall average delay across those airlines fell to 14 minutes and 48 seconds from 2024.
  • Tui's communications director said the airline chooses to operate delayed flights rather than cancel them to avoid wider disruption, and consumer group Which? Travel urged passengers to claim compensation when delays are airline-controlled.
  • The CAA reminded passengers of entitlements such as food, communications and overnight accommodation and possible claims up to £520 when delays are within an airline's control, and industry bodies pointed to technical faults, crew illness and external factors like weather or airspace limits as common causes.
