Byzantine Dream Takes Prix Foy, Tightens Arc Odds as Japan’s Bid Builds

Connections framed the Longchamp trial as a prep with plans to press on to the Arc subject to suitable ground.

Overview

  • Ridden by Oisin Murphy for trainer Tomoyasu Sakaguchi, Byzantine Dream finished strongly at Longchamp to beat Sosie, Almaqam and Los Angeles in the Prix Foy.
  • Paddy Power shortened Byzantine Dream to 12-1 for the Oct. 5 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, with Sosie also trimmed to around 12-1 after a close second.
  • Sakaguchi said the colt was not fully wound up for the Foy and expects improvement for the Arc, while Murphy indicated the horse is best on good or faster going.
  • Wertheimer et Frère’s Sosie used the Foy as a comeback run and is intended to return for the Arc if his preparation continues smoothly, according to racing manager Pierre-Yves Bureau.
  • Andre Fabre’s Cualificar surged late to win the Prix Niel, earning an Arc target and a move to around 14-1 with bookmakers, adding further depth to the emerging Arc picture.
