BYU’s Jane Hedengren Dominates Mountain Regional as Cougars Clinch NCAA Berth

Her third straight college victory lets coach Diljeet Taylor use fresh data to pick the seven for Missouri.

Overview

  • Hedengren won the 6,000-meter race in 19:06.6, finishing nearly 42 seconds ahead of New Mexico’s Pamela Kosgei, with BYU’s Riley Chamberlain third in 19:52.8.
  • Top-ranked BYU placed second with 47 points, two behind New Mexico, and secured an automatic bid to the Nov. 22 NCAA championships in Columbia, Missouri.
  • Six Cougars finished in the top 20: Hedengren (1), Chamberlain (3), Taylor Rohatinsky (9), Carmen Alder (16), Lexi Goff (18) and Zariel Macchia (19).
  • Taylor said the plan called for a calm opening 2K for Hedengren and that the results supplied decision-making data for the nationals lineup.
  • Hedengren remains unbeaten in three collegiate races after setting the Gans Creek course record and the Big 12 6K record at 18:29 earlier this season.
