Overview
- On Sept. 25 in Provo, Sister Amy A. Wright delivered the keynote at Brigham Young University’s conference marking 30 years of the 1995 proclamation.
- She identified four foundational truths: marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God, the family is central to the divine plan, all people are created in God’s image, and gender is an essential and eternal characteristic.
- Linking eternal families to Jesus Christ’s Atonement, she cited Elijah’s April 3, 1836 restoration of sealing keys to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery.
- She taught that men and women are divinely distinct and interdependent and said prophetic counsel and secular research indicate children need both a mother and a father.
- She concluded with an invitation to walk, love, serve, and forgive as the Savior did, promising that choosing God leads to belonging in an eternal family with the potential of eternal increase.
