Bystanders Intervene As Man Chokes Police Officer at Freeway Off-Ramp

Bystanders intervened as a California Highway Patrol officer was being choked in a headlock during an altercation with a man he had stopped for vandalizing freeway signs.
Three good Samaritans rescued the officer from a brutal assault by the man.
One bystander who helped, Everardo Navarro, said he acted after seeing the officer pinned down and being beaten.
The officer suffered minor injuries while the suspect was hospitalized for injuries to his face before being jailed on charges including assaulting an officer.
The California Highway Patrol praised the bystanders who came to the officer's aid.
