Overview
- A 44-year-old Essendon man was stabbed in the chest and neck outside Moonee Ponds Central around 4.30 pm on July 14.
- The victim, passersby and on-site security wrestled the 55-year-old Fitzroy man to the ground and held him until Victoria Police arrived.
- Victoria Police say the alleged attacker has significant mental health history and is awaiting a forensic medical assessment before interview.
- Officers contacted the Counterterrorism Command after the suspect was heard shouting “Allahu Akhbar” but found no religious or political motive.
