Byodoin, Sanjusangendo and Kiyomizu-dera Open Night Illuminations Beginning Nov. 22

Strict reservations with capped entries guide access to rare illuminated views including Sanjusangendo's first garden-side display.

Overview

  • Trial lightings wrapped up on Nov. 20–21, confirming setups before public night viewings begin on Nov. 22.
  • Byodoin in Uji runs select nights through Dec. 7 from 6:00–8:30 p.m., capped at 1,500 visitors per day with web reservations and prepayment; admission is 1,500 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for elementary to high school students.
  • Sanjusangendo offers three nights only from Nov. 22–24, 5:00–7:00 p.m. (last entry 6:30), with 2,000 yen admission for elementary age and up and a first-time garden viewing enabled by removing 70 shoji panels.
  • Temple staff say the Sanjusangendo night opening follows heightened interest after NHK’s Buratamori showcased its illumination in September.
  • Kiyomizu-dera’s night admission runs Nov. 22–Dec. 7 with lights on at 5:30 p.m., last entry at 9:00 p.m., and fees set at 500 yen for adults and 200 yen for elementary and junior high students.
