ByHeart Recalls Two Infant Formula Lots as FDA Probes 13 Botulism Hospitalizations

Testing to date has found no contamination in the recalled lots, with federal and state reviews still underway.

Overview

  • The voluntary recall covers Whole Nutrition Infant Formula cans coded 206VABP/251261P2 and 206VABP/251131P2 with a use-by date of December 1, 2026.
  • Thirteen infants have been hospitalized across 10 states after consuming formula from the two lots, and no deaths have been reported.
  • FDA and CDC report that company and agency tests so far have not detected botulinum spores or toxin, and no other ByHeart products are implicated.
  • Caregivers are urged to stop using the recalled cans, record the lot number before disposal or return, clean feeding items with hot soapy water or a dishwasher, and seek immediate medical care if symptoms appear.
  • ByHeart says it is acting out of caution and will replace affected cans at no cost, and the brand represents about 1% of U.S. formula sales.
