BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme Hits 308.4 MPH to Become Fastest Production Car

The ATP-verified one-way run by the quad-motor EV underscores Chinese makers’ rapid gains in top-tier performance.

Overview

  • The U9 Xtreme reached 308.4 mph (496.22 km/h) on September 14 at Germany’s ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg with German driver Marc Basseng at the wheel.
  • ATP verified the result as a one-way top speed, a method also used in Bugatti’s 2019 run, with two-way averaged records remaining a separate benchmark.
  • The track-focused EV uses four motors for about 2,978 hp on a 1,200-volt platform, paired with a high-discharge LFP Blade Battery, revised DiSus-X suspension, and bespoke semi-slick tires.
  • BYD’s Yangwang brand will produce no more than 30 U9 Xtreme units, positioning the car as an exclusive, limited-run halo model.
  • BYD also reports a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap of 6:59.157 for the U9 Xtreme, claiming the production EV record at the circuit.
