BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme Breaks Nürburgring EV Production Record With 6:59.157 Lap

The limited-run quad-motor hypercar set the time with professional driver Moritz Kranz after months of Nordschleife development.

Overview

  • The 6:59.157 lap is 5.8 seconds quicker than Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra’s 7:04.957 benchmark reported earlier this year.
  • Yangwang enlisted German racer Moritz Kranz for the attempt following an extended test program at the circuit that began in 2024.
  • The U9 Xtreme features an 80kWh LFP battery, a 1,200V architecture, and four motors that can spin up to 30,000 rpm, plus upgraded cooling, DiSus-X body control tweaks, carbon-ceramic brakes, semi-slick GitiSport tires, and a large rear wing.
  • BYD says the Xtreme version will be sold in a very limited run of no more than 30 units.
  • BYD also announced the U9 Xtreme will be added to Gran Turismo 7, with timing to be confirmed.
