Overview
- New-car registrations in the EU, UK and EFTA rose 4.9% in October to 1.092 million, according to ACEA.
- Battery-electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid registrations jumped 38.6%, 43.2% and 9.4% to a combined 63.9% share, while petrol and diesel sales declined sharply.
- BYD sold 17,470 vehicles in October in Europe, up 206.8% year over year for roughly a 1.6% share, compared with Tesla’s 6,964 registrations, down 48.5% to a 0.6% share.
- Chinese brands expanded their footprint, with SAIC selling 23,860 vehicles in October and Chinese automakers collectively reaching a reported 6.8% market share.
- ACEA warned overall volumes remain below pre-pandemic levels, as BYD builds plants in Hungary and Turkey with production scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026.
