BYD Details Atto 1 for Australia With Full Specs as Price Reveal Nears
The entry-level EV is poised to be Australia’s cheapest new electric car at about $25,000.
Overview
- BYD has published Australian specifications for the two-variant Atto 1, confirming an Essential and a Premium grade with distinct motors and batteries.
- The Essential uses a 30kWh LFP pack and 65kW/175Nm motor for 220km WLTP range and 11.1sec 0–100km/h, while the Premium fits a 43.2kWh LFP pack and 115kW/220Nm motor for 310km WLTP and 9.1sec.
- Charging is rated at 11kW AC and up to 65kW DC (Essential) or 85kW DC (Premium), with BYD indicating roughly 10–80 percent in about 30 minutes on a fast charger.
- Safety tech includes AEB, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise and six airbags, and the related European model holds a 2025 five-star Euro NCAP rating as ANCAP testing remains pending.
- The 3990mm-long hatch offers a 308L boot and, in Premium trim, adds 16-inch alloys, LED headlights, heated power seats, a 360-degree camera and wireless phone charging, with orders due mid-November and pricing to be confirmed; BYD is planning about 300 sales a month and says it can scale supply, while early drives note strong city manners but noticeable wind and road noise at highway speeds.
