BWI Service Workers File MOSH Complaint Alleging Heat and Biohazard Risks at AGI

Maryland’s safety agency says it is processing the filing as one of the first worker complaints at the airport under the state’s new heat rules.

Overview

  • Workers contracted by Alliance Ground International at BWI allege inadequate drinking water, rest breaks, shade and heat-stress training during periods of extreme heat.
  • The complaint details a reported incident in which employee Matt Schaal was sprayed with feces and urine and, without a change of clothes or a shower, continued handling baggage for hours.
  • Employees say AGI failed to provide required bloodborne-pathogen training and access to Hepatitis B vaccinations for those exposed to bodily fluids.
  • Additional allegations cite unsafe equipment and vehicles, including malfunctioning emergency brakes, broken seatbelts and limited protective gear such as a single shared face shield.
  • MOSH confirmed receipt of the complaint and is processing it, while AGI denies the claims, says no such incidents were reported through company channels and characterizes the union-backed action as pressure for representation.
