BVG Tops Out Treptow E-Bus Depot With Charging Infrastructure Completed

Federal backing of €160 million signals Berlin’s intent to accelerate BVG’s shift to electric buses on a 2027–early 2030s timeline.

  • At a topping-out ceremony with federal and city leaders, BVG confirmed the Treptow depot’s charging infrastructure is complete and noted €160 million in federal backing, including €120 million for this site.
  • The roughly €120 million facility at Minna-Todenhagen-Brücke is purpose-built for electric buses with parking and charging for about 220 vehicles on the Köpenicker Landstraße side and workshops for 32 more across the Spree.
  • Opening is scheduled for 2027, alongside a second new E-bus depot in Marienfelde targeted for completion the same year.
  • BVG counts 277 electric buses in service and targets about one third of its 1,500-bus fleet by 2027 and full conversion by the early 2030s.
  • Technical features include pantograph “Ladebrücke” charging and an automated system to manage parking, charge cycles and service intervals, plus service halls and wash facilities.
